The Emergency Medicine Student Research Group (EMSRG) is an exciting new group at USC Keck School of Medicine. The group is made up of first and second year medical students who are interested in clinical research in emergency medicine. Students participating in EMSRG gain firsthand insight into the implementation of clinical research while spending time in the emergency room as a useful part of the ER research team. The group's function is to enroll eligible patients into one of a number of ongoing research studies being conducted by LAC+USC Department of Emergency Medicine faculty. By volunteering to cover shifts after the regular hours of research assistants, EMSRG students allow these projects to cover a greater and more representative portion of the day. EMSRG offers a great opportunity for students to gain exposure to both emergency medicine and clinical research while offering the department the valuable service of increasing its research coverage time. Students who are interested in participating in EMSRG must complete an online IRB training module, as well as in-person training on the current research protocols. Additionally, EMSRG members must commit to covering at least two shifts per month. Shifts are available Sunday - Thursday 5:00pm-10:00pm. Interested students should contact keckemsrg@gmail.com for shift availability and current information.
