Clerkship Application Material

This is a highly popular USC elective that tends to fill far in advance. Therefore, we encourage you to contact us at least 6 months ahead of the dates that you wish to rotate. Please do not hesitate to contact Gay Lewis Taylor, our clerkship coordinator, at any time, as there may be openings available and cancellations do occur. Please note that between July and November, we generally only accept students who will apply to our emergency medicine residency program. Furthermore, we do not allow students to rotate between June 5 and July 5, which is our residency transition period.

All students must provide separate applications to:

1. The USC Keck School of Medicine (KSOM) Student Affairs using the AAMC VSAS.

2. Our clerkship coordinator, Gay Lewis Taylor (gaylewistaylor@yahoo.com), please cc: Dr. Fernandez (surfdoc2001@gmail.com).

You should provide us (by email or mail):

          1.    A passport-size photo (note: we need both a hard copy AND a digital version)

          2.    Answers to the following questions:

a. What dates are you available to rotate (please offer as many as possible)?

b. Are you considering a career in EM?

Students who wish to rotate between July and November must provide us with the following information:

          1. USC students: your EM faculty advisor, assigned by Dr. Fernandez in advance.

   2. Visiting students: the name and email address of your emergency medicine faculty, or alternatively, any faculty mentor, who knows your career choice and can verify your goals and plans.

DO Students: You must have passed USMLE step 1; please contact USC Student Affairs directly.

International Students: Only schools with a Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) with USC can rotate here.

If you have any questions, please contact Gay for more details.
