Note; Ride-Alongs may only be available to 3rd/4th year students. More information can be found on the clerkship webpage.
So much happens to a patient before they even reach the ED. An ambulance ride-along is a wonderful opportunity to see the pre-hospital care that a patient receives. See the position and setting they were found in and watch as EMTs complete a primary and secondary survey and begin basic resuscitation.
For ambulance ride-alongs please contact Gloria Tolle, RN, LAC+USC’s prehospital care coordinator, at gtolle@lacusc.org , three weeks prior to when you’d like to go out. When calling, include the city/station to which you'd like to go. Click here for a listing of LAFD stations (you can also visit your favorite non-LA city’s homepage to find other local stations). Ms. Tolle will make the arrangements between you and the fire-station.
On the day of your ride-along: Wear comfortable pants (NOT jeans or scrubs) and closed-toed shoes. Wear your county badge. Bring with you a dessert to give to the station staff (i.e. a box of cookies/brownies for 8-10 people).
