Medical Student Education

Thank you for considering the Department of Emergency Medicine (DEM) at Los Angeles County + University of Southern California (LAC-USC) Medical Center for the site of your Emergency Medicine senior elective. We offer a clinically rich environment that is fast paced and hands-on!

Our rotation is a four-week elective that is structured to allow you an intense clinical experience at one of the busiest trauma centers in the United States. You will rotate through our major medical/trauma area (1350) as well as our minor trauma area (1060), supervised by our outstanding residents and diverse faculty.

In addition to our unsurpassed clinical experience, you will benefit from a variety of supplemental educational activities. Medical student lectures are given by our faculty every weekday morning, except on Thursdays. DEM grand rounds, which are held on Thursday mornings, are excellent overall, with nationally-recognized speakers providing world-class lectures. Furthermore, your rotation will include a hands-on suturing workshop and an optional paramedic ride-along. For guidance throughout this experience, you will be individually paired with a PGY-3 or PGY-4 resident each week.

Please review our website for further information and contact us with any questions. We look forward to meeting you soon!
