The H. Claude Hudson Comprehensive Health Center is located just south of downtown Los Angeles, at 2829 South Grand Avenue. Built in 1979, the main health center is an 89,800 square foot, two-story building with 77 examination rooms. In 1988 the Board of Supervisors ordered implementation of Urgent Care services to reduce the County's overwhelming demand for emergency room services.
The purpose of the Urgent Care is to serve patients who might otherwise seek emergency room services inappropriately. The Urgent care provides those non-emergency, medical services required for immediate diagnosis and treatment of physical and mental conditions which could lead to serious disability.
The DEM provides medical supervision, quality assurance and management of the Urgent Care Center at the H. Claude Hudson Comprehensive Health Care Center. The Urgent Care Center serves adults and children of any age and provides women's services, radiological interpretation and referral services. The Urgent Care Center is open sixteen hours a day, seven days a week including holidays and serves between forty and forty-five thousand patients annually.
