The Los Angeles County-University of Southern California Emergency Medicine Residency Program invited interested Southern California medical students to the first annual USC emergency medicine symposium and residency fair. This one day event was designed for all medical students who are interested in pursuing careers in emergency medicine. The day consisted of numerous short lectures on interesting topics in the field of emergency medicine, procedural workshops and socializing/networking opportunities. Representatives from numerous residency programs were available to offer advice on successfully matching an EM residency.
Over 20 USC faculty and residents represented our program and helped organize the day's events. Furthermore, we were incredibly fortunate to host visiting faculty and residents from UCSF-SFGH, UCLA-Olive View, UCSD, Harbor-UCLA, LLU, UCI, Kern, and Arrowhead. Over 120 enthusiastic 1st-4th year medical and osteopathic students attended from across CA and the nation (we even had 1 student who visited from the country of Jordan), and the feedback I have heard has been wonderful. This would not have been possible without your generous support and dedication. Furthermore, we will notify you when the lectures and photos are available to download on the web. Also, be on the lookout for photos or commentary in statewide EM journals and newsletters!
Sincerely,
Jorge Fernandez, MD
